About Angela Man Xu

I am a Postdoctoral fellow at the Department of International Studies at American University of Sharjah. I acquired a PhD in Sociology from the University of Toronto, a MA in Middle Eastern Studies from Lund University in Sweden and a B.A. in Persian Language and Literature from Peking University in China. My work sits at the intersection of economic sociology, race, ethnicity and migration studies. I examine how people make sense of their economic relations, and how these interpretations shape social orders in the global market and are intertwined with identity and status negotiation. My work integrates qualitative methods, including ethnography, interviews, and discourse analysis and appears in the Sociological Review, Current Sociology and the Routledge Handbook on Middle Eastern Diasporas.
